Today, January 27, 2024 is officially the Talman's 30th birthday! 🎉
Well, I've never worked for Ibanez and I don't have access to any insider info, but I was curious about the "Talman" name years ago. So I searched the United States Patent and Trademark Office records (USPTO). The Talman wordmark / copyright states the first time it was used in commerce was Jan 27, 1994.
Not much. At Winter NAMM this year (happening currently! Jan 25-28, 2024) Ibanez announced new Talman basses, but nothing about the 30th anniversary. The Talman, in general, has not been a popular model, so Ibanez might have forgot... but I'm still crossing my fingers that they will find some small way to celebrate before the year is over.
My dream is to see a new, limited edition Talman Prestige (solid body electric guitar). I've got a few ideas...
The 30th anniversary for a wedding is called the "Pearl Anniversary". So it makes perfect sense to me to have a Pearl Vintage White (PVWH) Talman Prestige. If you've been paying attention to the Talman used market over the past few years, you'll know that the TM1730M in Vintage White (VWH) is by far the most popular model.
Additionally, I'd love to see a rosewood fretboard, pearl fret markers, and lipstick pickups in a strat configuration as a throwback to the original models. If we're really dreaming here, the TalsGuide spec would have a birds-eye maple neck, sparkle finish, and HSS configuration with the dyna-MIX 9 switching system w/Alter switch from the AZ series.
Ibanez if you want to collaborate, contact me! I've got more ideas and I'd love to help make this happen.
I've already got a hangtag designed for you to use. 😉
